Struggling anatomical illustrator Rina Lux‘s estranged mother, Renderer Augusta Lux, has died and left her a cryptic magnum opus of magical anatomy intended to indoctrinate her into the secret, powerful Artist’s Guild Black. It is a key to unimaginable power, and will propel her to the top of the Artist’s Guild hierarchy and beyond— her magic will serve as a sacred interpretation of Gods’ Hands and bring back the Obsidian Age.
But the book is stolen by her mother’s depraved apprentice and lover, Guild Black Brother Mercury, who has disassembled its folios and is on his own mission to fulfill them.
Rina recruits Lux’s body man, Selis Corpseseller, and the one person she knows will help her unquestioningly, Guild Archivist, book thief, and ex-lover August Seberg. With their help, Rina races desperately to reclaim, decode, and complete the mysterious folios with human inks, before Brother Mercury uses her legacy to subdue the world.
Through this deadly journey, Rina grows her powers, and truly understands what it means to become the Blackest Renderer of all.
ABOUT RAMONA
Ramona Lyons, Ph.D. is an emerging speculative fiction writer living in San Francisco. She’s a graduate of Voices of Our Nation (VONA) and recently attended Deborah Harkness' juried Hedgebrook workshop, The Art and Craft of Revision for her novel, THE BODY A BOOK OF CONJURING.
